I want to talk about closed captions, or hearing impaired subtitles, or whatever you call them in your territory. You know what I mean: the transcription of the spoken word, in text at the bottom of the screen, which you can turn on and off: 
 
Why do I want to talk about them: because I think they are important. And they are important for a number of reasons – maybe more than you think.
